Summary: Manufacturing is about data. It is about collecting data. It is about analyzing data. It is about trying to understand the patterns in data that we collect. Only part of the data that a manufacturing enterprise needs comes from the control systems. There is a significant amount of “ancillary” data in every manufacturing plant, and it is becoming more important to use this data every year. This data can be used to improve the competitiveness and productivity of manufacturing facilities, especially older, brownfield plants.
